The start-up was founded a handful of years ago when Pernille Lydia Sørensen needed an impact drill. "My father was far away and no one else around me had one - so did I really need to buy one for my short-term need? These short-term needs I encountered repeatedly, and I started to notice how the basement rooms were booming - often with the same things," she says. After a few years of reflection, she and a group of partners founded the company in 2022.
The ambitious sustainable agenda that underpins Monto also helps to alleviate the purchase-heavy consumer culture and the tendency to buy new. In particular, the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production is one of the key values of Monto. The SDG contributes to economic growth and sustainable development, but it requires that the footprint on nature is reduced as soon as possible. This is why there is also a trend towards more businesses and consumers using the sharing economy.
"We want a better utilisation of resources, aimed at saving money and generating additional income for individuals, businesses and associations. We want to reactivate the dead objects that are lying around in basements, garages, attics and cupboards. We believe that when you can rent out your home on Airbnb and your car on GoMore, you will also rent out your other belongings on Monto," says Pernille.
Monto moved into INCUBA StartupLab in February 2023, where the co-founder has most recently participated in INCUBA's networking event, Gin & Tech. The purpose of Gin & Tech is to provide useful sparring and feedback that can help companies find future partners and investments.
"Monto's journey in INCUBA began on 1 February 2023, which we have been very much looking forward to. Gin & Tech is a brilliant place to practise your pitch and meet a lot of other cool startups. Of course, it is also a place where you get in touch with business developers, mentors and sparring partners - this means that you can get concrete feedback on some sparring points," says Pernille Lydia Sørensen.
The "Monto" app was launched in September 2022 and is available for download now: "We have geographically limited ourselves to Aarhus and the surrounding area to achieve a large user interface, but in the long term, Monto will expand to more cities and abroad - and with our EU trademark, Monto is equipped to do just that," concludes co-founder, Pernille Lydia Sørensen.
